Dogs and Religion

Dogs like to hunt. Many dogs will stare at squirrels in trees or running along wires, convinced that one day a squirrel will fall into their mouth. They really think it will happen.

That seems very like how religion works. You develop an idea based on remote plausbility and wishing, and you hold fast to it despite the lack of wish fulfillment. I believe that's called faith, and it seems to work for people as well as dogs.

I know a dog that has had a squirrel fall from a wire right in front of her. And then another time a squirrel, instead of running away from her, ran right up to her - in essence right into her mouth. Maybe she's figured out the true religion. Squirrel-staring. Yeah, that works.
